    The U.S. Department of Labor, Office of the Solicitor (SOL) seeks a top-quality, experienced trial attorney to join the San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, or Los Angeles, CA sub-Regional office. This is a full time, permanent GS-0905 position in the excepted service. This position has promotion potential to the GS-14 level. The Trial Attorney will handle all phases of litigation before federal courts and administrative bodies under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) and other statutes enforced by the Department. Demonstrated interest in public interest law and/or experience with employment laws and/or vulnerable worker populations is desirable. Ability to speak Chinese, Korean or Spanish is not required, but preferred. Must be active member of the California Bar if selected for San Francisco or Los Angeles.

    Duties:

    • Advise company on a broad range of employment matters including workers’ compensation, discrimination, termination, retaliation, wage and hour laws, benefits/compensation, sexual harassment, etc., and ensure that company is in compliance with state and federal laws
    • Attend and represent the company in employment-related proceedings and hearings
    • In conjunction with HR department, ensure that company policies are being followed, and issue corrective actions as needed

    • Draft and review all necessary company agreements
    • Draft and revise company policies
    • Create programs to train HR department on a full range of employment matters
    • Coordinate and control outside counsel on matters relating to company’s customers’ bankruptcies and company’s copyrights, and any other litigation

    Requirements:

    • Minimum of 3 years of experience with employment law in a law firm or in-house setting
    • Employment litigation experience is a plus
    • Comprehensive understanding of and prior advisory experience with current employment and labor laws
    • Ability to analyze and advise on complex legal issues pertaining to overall business operations and processes
    • Experience in copyright, trademark, or bankruptcy law is a plus
    • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
    • Must be proficient in Korean language

    Western State College of Law is seeking an Adjunct Professor to teach a practice-oriented Mediation course in the Spring 2019 semester.

    The Mediation course is designed to teach students the skills and techniques used in mediation of legal disputes in multiple areas of law, including Family Law and Business Law. Students participate in simulated hypothetical situations in order to develop and practice these skills. They also will develop skills in client counseling, facilitation, and problem solving.

    The course is a two-unit course, which meets on Wednesday evenings for ten weekly three-hour sessions. The course will run from Feb. 13 through April 24, 2019, with no class on March 6 (spring break).

    Ideal candidates will be Certified Mediators with an active mediation practice, and with experience or a strong interest in training future attorneys. Please contact Associate Dean Susan Keller at skeller@wsulaw.edu or 714-459-1141.
