    Duties:

    • Advise company on a broad range of employment matters including workers’ compensation, discrimination, termination, retaliation, wage and hour laws, benefits/compensation, sexual harassment, etc., and ensure that company is in compliance with state and federal laws
    • Attend and represent the company in employment-related proceedings and hearings
    • In conjunction with HR department, ensure that company policies are being followed, and issue corrective actions as needed
    • Review all incoming and outgoing legal documents and provide counsel to company management
    • Draft and review all necessary company agreements
    • Draft and revise company policies
    • Create programs to train HR department on a full range of employment matters
    • Coordinate and control outside counsel on matters relating to company’s customers’ bankruptcies and company’s copyrights, and any other litigation

    Requirements:

    • Minimum of 3 years of experience with employment law in a law firm or in-house setting
    • Employment litigation experience is a plus
    • Comprehensive understanding of and prior advisory experience with current employment and labor laws
    • Ability to analyze and advise on complex legal issues pertaining to overall business operations and processes
    • Experience in copyright, trademark, or bankruptcy law is a plus
    • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
    • Must be proficient in Korean language

    Western State College of Law is seeking an Adjunct Professor to teach a practice-oriented Mediation course in the Spring 2019 semester.

    The Mediation course is designed to teach students the skills and techniques used in mediation of legal disputes in multiple areas of law, including Family Law and Business Law. Students participate in simulated hypothetical situations in order to develop and practice these skills. They also will develop skills in client counseling, facilitation, and problem solving.

    The course is a two-unit course, which meets on Wednesday evenings for ten weekly three-hour sessions. The course will run from Feb. 13 through April 24, 2019, with no class on March 6 (spring break).

    Adjunct Professor - Western State College of Law (Spring 2019)

    The Corporate Criminal Liability course addresses the elements of the numerous types of white collar crimes, including theft by means of fraud and deception, with emphasis on investment, real estate, and credit card fraud, wire and mail fraud, identity theft, computer-related crimes, bribery and extortion, money laundering and R.I.C.O. violations including both federal and California statutes. Students will understand and apply the principles of criminal culpability as it pertains to conspiracies, aiding and abetting, and corporate versus individual criminal liability, as well as to understand the nature and function of federal Grand Jury proceedings as they relate to white collar crime investigations and indictments; identify the typical evidentiary issues attendant to a criminal white collar crime investigation and prosecution; and understand the challenges white collar crime situations present to the legal practitioner in terms of ethics and the advisement and representation of clients.  The course is taught as a research and writing seminar, with a research paper or similar project in lieu of a final examination.

    Minimum qualifications:

    • JD degree
    • Membership in at least one state bar
    • 5+ years of experience practicing law related to technology, media, or general commercial transactions
